Today, Paralympics GB won their first ever gold medal at a Paralympic Winter Games! Congratulations to Kelly Gallagher and her guide Charlotte Evans for winning gold and Jade Etherington and her guide Caroline Powell for winning bronze in the Super-G for the visually impaired. Also, Anna Turney narrowly missed out on a medal by coming fourth in the Super-G seated skiing. You can see more photos and read about Kelly and Charlotte’s historic win at The Daily Mail online.
I’ve checked the medal table and we are actually 9th out of 45 countries! That is amazing, especially considering we were only aiming to get 2 medals during the whole of the games. It’s even more incredible when you find out we only have 12 competitors (I had read previously that we had 15 but there are only 12 in the squad on the Channel 4 site). Most of them have never been in a Paralympic Winter Games before. You can view their profiles here.
If you missed Channel 4’s highlights show or you haven’t seen any of the Paralympic Winter Games and want to see what all of the fuss is about, take a look here.
I make no apologies for temporarily handing my blog over to the Paralympic Winter Games. These athletes deserve to have recognition for their achievements. They’re awesome!
