Congratulations to Jade Etherington and Caroline Powell – First GB Medal at Sochi

We’ve won our first medal at Sochi!  It’s silver and it was won by visually impaired downhill skier Jade Etherington and her guide Caroline Powell.  It is the first ever Paralympic skiing medal to be won by British women.  It’s an incredible achievement, particularly as Jade and Caroline met less than a year ago and today was only their third competitive run together.  It is even more amazing when you know that Jade has less than five per cent vision in each eye.  It is her birthday tomorrow (Sunday) – what a way to celebrate!

Paralympics GB is aiming to get 2 medals during the Winter Games.  We’re already halfway there and it’s only the first day.  Jade and Caroline will also be competing in The Super-G, Slalom and Giant Slalom so they may win another medal or two.  Good luck to both of them.   🙂
