Just thought I’d let you know that the genealogy show ‘Who Do You Think You Are? Live’ is on at Olympia in London tomorrow, Friday and Saturday. You should be able to get tickets on the door for £22. There are celebrity talks, workshops to give you tips on tracing your family tree plus experts who can help you when you think you’ve reached a dead end (pun intended lol). My sister and I went last year and we had a great time. We spoke to an expert who helped us to find out that one of our ancestors, who was an artist, had paintings exhibited at the Royal Academy (WOW!!!) and a few weeks later we were even able to go to view one of his miniatures at Blythe House which is part of the Victoria & Albert museum that is not open to the public. It was like trying to get into Fort Knox! We were allowed to handle the miniature but we had to wear gloves. It was a portrait of an actor dressed as Richard III (which thrilled my sister as she is mad about Richard III) and the detail was incredible. It was amazing to think that our ancestor had actually painted it!
Last year, the celebrity talk we saw was by Samantha Womack and it was very interesting. The celebrities doing the talks this year are Natasha Kaplinsky on Thursday, Larry Lamb on Friday and Colin Jackson on Saturday. There are also lots of stands at the show that have various resources for researching your ancestors along with things like DNA testing. It is a fascinating day out and I highly recommend it.
